MICHAEL JENSEN 07/11/1939 - 07/31/202 Michael J. Jensen, 86, of Penn Yan, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Penn Yan Manor. Michael was born on July 11, 1939, in Penn Yan to the late Henry and Mary (O'Connor) Jensen, Sr. Michael is predeceased by his wife, Thelma Lee Jensen (2022); brother, Henry (Janice) Jensen Jr.; and sisters, Patricia Alexander, Sharon Allen and Margaret Jensen. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Beverly (James) Peterson of Dundee, N.Y.; brothers, Daniel (Myra) Jensen, Cornelius Jensen Sr., and Jens (Sharon) Jensen; sisters, Karen (Fred) Best and Chris Christensen; grandson, David (Nella) Peterson; along with special friend and high school sweetheart, Joan Collins Tomion. Michael graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1959 and was a star athlete in both football and wrestling. He and Thelma married on March 11, 1972. He worked for over 20 years as a welder for NYSEG at Greenidge Power Plant in Dresden, N.Y. He attended Penn Yan United Methodist Church and was a member of Penn Yan Elks Lodge #1702 for many years. Michael enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football and NASCAR. He raced snowmobiles and midget race cars in his younger years, often helping friend Dutch Hoag with his racing endeavors. Michael could often be found surrounded by family and friends at the parties he and Thelma hosted together, and traveling when they were able. Michael's family would like to extend their gratitude to the Penn Yan Manor staff for their compassionate care during his stay. A private graveside service will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan.
