Clara Evella Stevens

Clara Evella Stevens, 92, Sweetser, passed away at 4:50 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Witham Hospital in Lebanon. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, May 9, 1929, to Leroy and Leona (Ancil) Henderson. Clara graduated from Sweetser High School in 1946. She married Merrill W. Stevens on January 31, 1948, and he preceded her in death.

Clara was a homemaker throughout her life. She served in many community activities, was a den mother for Cub Scouts in Sweetser, and served as a Sunday school teacher in the Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include her daughter, Marsha (late Lloyd) Hughes of Lebanon; son, Dean (Rebecca) Stevens of Mexico, IN; granddaughters, Kelly J. Stevens of Kokomo and Mindy (Greg) Hedge of Lebanon; grandsons, Kevin (Linette) Stevens of Peru, Scott (Missy) Weaver of Lebanon, and Ron (Missy) Weaver of Thorntown; great-grandsons, Kegan Connor, Alexander Stevens, Hunter Weaver, Carston Hedge, and Colton Weaver; great-granddaughters, Kennedy Connor, Alyssa Stevens, Cylee Weaver, Lenora Hedge, Elayna Weaver, and Lilli Porter; great-great grandson, Chace Lea; and sister, Marilyn Yvonne (late Charles) Adkins.

In addition to her husband, Merrill, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan (late fiancé Gary Haulk) Stevens; sisters, Theora Mae Baker, Barbara Ellen (late James) Perkins, Catherine Virginia (late Clyde) Myers, and Rosemary (John) Thompson; and brother, James E. (late Nina) Henderson, Sr.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Clara's life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Thrailkill Cemetery.
