Douglas Burris Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce Douglas Burris, 61, of Homosassa, FL passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January 21, 2020. He was born on June 24, 1958 to Calvin and Wanda Burris in Terre Haute, IN. He served in the US Navy and enjoyed a position as a Custodian for the Citrus County School District for over 20 years. Douglas always had a smile and a joke to make people laugh. He had a "Green Thumb" and enjoyed growing Bonsai trees and caring for his beloved cats. Douglas will be remembered as the guy with a heart of gold. Always giving to others even if doing without for himself. He loved his family and friends beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his father Calvin and is survived by his mother and step-father Wanda (Wayne) Faulkenberg; sister Diana (Daniel) Kreisle; step-brothers Eldon Faulkenberg and Richard (Frances) Faulkenberg; nieces Samantha Kreisle, Carrie Poust, Jennifer Boone, and Piper Faulkenberg, and nephew Jonathan Faulkenberg.
Family will receive friends for visitation from 5-7PM, Monday, January 27, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, FL. Funeral service will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the funeral home followed by burial at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with full military honors. Although another year has passed, the great memories I hold of my friend Doug have not passed. On this anniversary of his passing, let us all remember to remember him and his great personality, as I feel he still walks amongst us in spirit. God surely created the best of the best with his marvelous creation of Doug. Anyone who spent any time knowing him is blessed by him, I am sure. Hey Doug, we all pass one day. Maria and I will see you in heaven some day. We´ll toast a beer.

I just found out December 2020 that my dear friend Doug passed away last January. I lived in Florida in the past for a few years, and Doug and I became great friends. He was there for me when I got divorced from my first wife and I needed emotional support. He was always a great friend. He would go out of his way to be helpful. He had a way if making people laugh and enjoy his company. He was truly a man with a heart of gold. He definitely loved his cats and spiders. Doug could best be remembered for his weird, but funny sense of humor. He and I used to have great times at the Bingo games around town. That’s how he got a car one time. I won money, and gave it to him to buy a car. He would have done the same for me. Doug, my wife and I miss you. May you be up in heaven with all the other angels, which is where you belong. Earth has lost a true Angel. I am sure God is holding you in his hands. See you up there one day, buddy!
