SCHNEIDER

Janice Ruth (nee Smiley) Schneider, 87 years old (January 30, 1929- March 4, 2016) loving and devoted wife of 63 years to Erwin J. Schneider, beloved mother of Judy (Chris) Dalambakis. Jan was born in Cleveland and is preceded in death by her parents Ida and George Smiley who played for the Cleveland Indians. Sister of the late Jean (William) LePrevost of Cleveland and Donna (Stan) Ernst of Cincinnati. Jan grew up in Cincinnati where she attended Evanston Elementary School, where she met her husband Erv in the 8th grade, and graduated from Withrow. Jan and Erv were married in 1953 after he graduated from UC. They lived in Maryland and at Edward's Air Force Base in California while Erv served in the US Army, before settling back in Cincinnati. They shared their love for boating - from their first date on the Erv Jr. to their beautiful Judy Jan VIII docked at the Four Season's Marina where they have had a boat for over 50 years. Jan and Erv enjoyed travel up and down the Ohio River to West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana; as well as trips around the world to Egypt, Australia, Hawaii, Germany, North Pole, Paris, Norway, Finland, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. She will be missed greatly by her loving daughter, her devoted husband and their many friends. Visitation will held Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service 12:00 p.m. at the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery. Interment Spring Grove Cemetery. A reception will follow at Kenwood Country Club. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Cincinnati and the Christ Hospital Foundation. Erv,

Denise and I send to you out deepest sympathy. I thought you might like this poem;

I Am Standing Upon The Seashore A wide clear open beach: sea, sand and sky meeting
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come
to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says;
"There, she is gone!"

"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my side
and she is just as able to bear her
load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "There, she is gone!"
There are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

Erv & Judy,
I am truly sorry. Jan will be missed tremendously. I am praying for you all. My heart goes out to you....Im going to miss my Jan.....Thinking and Praying for you all. She was a dear friend to me...she taught me a thing or two in the few years i knew her....she kept me on my feet at all times...Sending my deepest condolences....
