Asheville - Brenda Reeves Tompkins, 73, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Canton, GA, Mrs. Tompkins was the daughter of the late William and Naomi Youngblood Green. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Bentley Reeves, Sr.

Mrs. Tompkins was a graduate of Mercer University and had worked as a teacher and social worker. She most recently owned and operated the Olde World Christmas Shoppe in Biltmore Village with her husband, Bruce. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and crafts. Mrs. Tompkins was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Tompkins; children, Rosemoon Mecho (Charles), Ben Reeves (Amy), Terri Cox (Keith), Prentice Tompkins (Shannon), Brandi Kirkland (Mike), and Beth Tompkins; brother, William Green; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. A funeral service for Mrs. Tompkins will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rob Blackburn officiating.

Her family will again receive friends from 11:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Soesbee Funeral Home, in Canton, GA, followed by a 2:00 p.m. graveside service at Cherokee Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Organization, P.O. Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

I was so sorry to hear that Brenda, my college roommate and special sorority sister had entered Chapter Grand. We shared many fun and happy times at Mercer.
