Orlanda,Fl, Mars Hill, NC - Edris Willis Cassida died Saturday, March 12, 2016. Mrs. Cassida was born January 4, 1926. to C.N. Willis, Sr. and Minnie Lee Hamlin Willis. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd A. Cassida, brother C.N. Willis, Jr., and sister, Edith Lunsford. She is survived by her children Terry Tinsley (Jack) of Orlando, Fl, Rhonda Kirchner (Michael) of Bolivia, NC, John Cassida (Bette) of Murfreesboro, TN, Bonnie Cassida (Graham Higgs) of Columbia, MO, and Marla Cassida (Marco Noto) of Tryon, NC. She had ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sisters Inez Edwards, Melba Payne and Orpha Dornisch (Don), brothers Boyce Willis (Florence) and V.J. Willis (Wanda) and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cassida was a graduate of Mars Hill High School. She worked in a shipyard as a welder during Ward War II. She worked at Hammarlund Mfg. Co. where she met her husband, and also at North Buncombe High School. She was known for her paintings and published a book of poetry entitled, Attic of My Mind. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 @ 3:00 PM at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
Officiant will be her daughter, Rev. Bonnie Cassida. Burial will follow at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. I have read her poems, seen her beautiful paintings, and learned about her past. I am glad that i met her, and had the pleasure of her company. I know she raised some wonderful children, and I now have the pleasure of being friends with Rhonda, as well as family. I know she was a committed Christian, and was faithful to her Church. Because of these th I ngs, I know she is living with the Lord now, in Heaven... free from pain, and once again laughing. Rest in Peace Edris.

To me she will always be aunt Edris, I will always remember her for her Cherry yum yum , she was at every birthday party I ever had , she came to my baby shower & she was one of the first one's to hold my son when he was born.. She added that extra specialness to a room as she did to life ..

Terry and Rhonda, You are in my thoughts and prayers. I've often thought of you. I rode the bus past your grandparents house each day and we were in class together in school. Haven't forgotten you either. My deepest sympathy to you and she was a beautiful lady. I know you were extremely proud and thankful for her. May Jesus be your comfort now and forever. To the family of Edris, I offer my condolences. Like Edris, I am a poet. She and I met years ago in a writing class at AB Tech and shared poetry books. I, along with my sister Sandra, who also was in the class, remember the sincerity and gentleness of Edris. Her generous soul imprinted on all of us.
