I just found out about the passing of Matt when I saw his father's obituary. Matt was a great friend of mine when I was growing up. He was a gifted athlete and he greatly influenced and helped to improve my tennis game. We spent many afternoons and evenings playing tennis at Edgemoor Park which was situated between our homes. He lived at one end of the park and I at the other. The greatest thing about Matt Auten was not his gift as an athlete, nor his abilities as a singer and musician. Matt Auten was known to me and by many as a shining light for Christ! It pains me to write this as I only learned of his passing today. I do find comfort in knowing that I will indeed see my good friend again, though. Matt had a love for Jesus and was a constant witness of the grace and mercy of Almighty God. Matt never knew it in this life, but it was his witness that was responsible to a great degree for leading my lost soul to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ! I never got to share that with him. But I'm sure that he knows. He obviously had a very wonderful set of parents that cared for his soul early on as evidenced by their willingness to send him to private Christian school. Their efforts have certainly paid off even though Matt's life has been seemingly cut short. I know that Matt accomplished exactly what The Father had set out for him to do and now that his Earthly work was finished, it was time to bring him home. Heaven is rejoicing the reception of Matts father now. I just hope that anyone who reads this knows what this family meant to me and how my childhood friend shaped my heart and my mind and helped me to accept Jesus into my heart. Goodbye old friend! Until I see you up yonder!!!
