Alex J. Kaminski, 92, of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Saturday, July 17, 2021.
Alex, known to all as Lefty since he was young, was born in Ashley on May 2, 1929, a son of the late Bertha Demorit Kaminski. He graduated from Ashley High School and was known for his athletic ability in both basketball and baseball. He still had all the newspaper clippings showing his stats on the baseball diamond and basketball court.
Lefty had a singing career while still a young man, performing at numerous shows and a few appearances on TV for the David Blight Show. He sounded just like Sinatra when he sang.
Lefty worked for many years at Ashley Quilting as a foreman and mechanic until his retirement.
The family had a cottage on the Susquehanna River in the Laceyville area for many years. They spent all their free time and weekends relaxing, fishing, card playing and just having fun with their extended families. Lefty was quite the fisherman on the Susquehanna and the local streams in the Mountain Top area and the Poconos. No one ever caught more, or larger, fish than he did; that is no fish tale.
Married on Thanksgiving day in 1950, Lefty and his wife, Ann, had been fans of the New York Yankees for many years; they never missed a televised game. Over the years, the couple also loved their many outings to the local casinos with their daughter and son-in-law; you could always find Lefty at the Blackjack table, his game of choice.
His son, Joseph A. Kaminski, passed away on July 16, 2019. A brother, Daniel Kaminski, also preceded him in death.
His wife of nearly 71 years, Ann Bly Kaminski; daughter, Roseann Kaminski Mitko and her husband, John, Saylorsburg; daughter-in-law, C. Susanne Darden Kaminski, Mountain Top; grandsons, James J. Kaminski, Kingston; and Joshua T. Kaminski, Mountain Top; sister, JoAnn Williams, Limerick; and other family and friends will miss him much.
Lefty's family is thankful for the kindness, care and support he received from his physical therapists over the last few months.
Celebration of Alex's life includes visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaughlin's, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, and continues there on Friday with gathering at 8:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Jude, Mountain Top.

Roseann/John, I am so sorry for your loss. Lefty was a fun guy and one heck of a fisherman. I can't make it to the viewing, but my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you all. R.I.P. Lefty
