Clifford L. Jones, 89, of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital with loving family by his side.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Stewart and Helen Voelker Jones. He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1951, and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for many years with Eberhardt Faber and later retired as the office manager from Leggett & Platt.
In his retirement, he worked with the Wilkes-Barre Area School District as a crossing guard in North End for many years and enjoyed his friendly interactions with the young students and their parents.
Cliff was a passionate community servant. He served in many capacities with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Twp. American Legion.
His passion was helping raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children as a member of the Irem Shriners. As a Shriner, Cliff was a past potentate, treasurer, circus chairman for more than 10 years, colonel of the Units, pilgrimage chairman, past commander of the Legion of Honor, past president of MASA LOH, president of the MidAtlantic Shrine Association (which includes 24 temples in the mid-Atlantic states) and a member of the Irem Cabiri.
Although Cliff held many titles, his most cherished were "Dad," "Pop," and "Great Pop" to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He would take any opportunity available to talk about how proud he was of each of them, whether it be their schooling, jobs, accomplishments, and most recently his great-grandchildren's sports, which he loved to watch. They were just as proud of him and his legacy, and his memory will remain close to their hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Marguerite Jones; son, Cliff Jones; brother Stewart Jones; and sister, Dorothy Petroski.
He will be sadly and forever missed by his daughter, Kathy Margavitch and her husband John; daughter-in-law, Janice Jones; grandchildren, Dr. Nicole Margavitch and her husband, Dr. Korey Sessions; Jennifer Yuhas and her husband, Robert; Jaclyn Jones; Dr. Jack Margavitch and his fiancé, Dr. Alysa Sadkin; great-grandchildren Sofia and Ava Sessions and Jordan Yuhas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Evelyn Evans; nieces and nephews.
At Cliff's request, there will be no formal viewing or funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607
