John Wysocki Obituary

Dr. John Wysocki, 76, of Kingston and formerly of Beverly, Mass., died peacefully in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014.

John was born in Nanticoke on Nov. 3, 1938, the son of Constantine and Genevieve Wysocki. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, John P. Wysocki Jr.

A graduate of St. Mary's High School, Class of 1956, and King's College, he received his medical degree in 1965 from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at District of Columbia General Hospital and residency in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He continued his studies for plastic surgery abroad in Scotland.

Dr. Wysocki was board certified in plastic surgery. He loved teaching and became a professor of anatomy at Boston University prior to opening his own plastic surgery center in Danvers, Mass. Upon retiring he accepted a position of associate professor at Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton from 2008 to 2010. Early in his medical career he served in the Navy as the physician aboard the submarine USS Daniel Webster.

His greatest passion in life was his family. He was an avid football fan and especially liked the New England Patriots, and his favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Sox. He loved the ocean and loved sailing. He captained "Mr. Jumpa" to victory in the Southern Champion Conference.

Surviving are his son, Mark Wysocki, daughter-in-law, Lisa, and their children, Aidan and Ryan; son, Matthew Wysocki; sisters, Marian Diggs, Connecticut; and Judith Voss, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his best friend, Ruth Roberts Johanssen, with whom he resided. She made his final years joyful and his final journey peaceful.

The family would like to thank the staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley and especially the doctors and nurses of the ICU unit for the wonderful care given to Dr. Wysocki.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from Maher-Collins Funeral Home, 360 N. Maple Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, Kingston. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

John and I worked together at The Commonwealth Medical College during it's founding years. He was a wonderful colleague and friend. John was instrumental in the development of course materials for first year medical students. He loved teaching and mentoring and he was greatly appreciated by his students.
