Eleanor Bernheim Bass

Eleanor Bernheim Bass passed away on June 4, 2012 at the Orchard in Ridgeland. She was 86 years old. Eleanor was born on September 3, 1925 in Gulfport to the late Georgia Mae Shirley Bernheim and Paul Bernheim. She grew up in Gulfport, and graduated from the University of Tennessee. She and her husband, Dr. James C. Bass, made their life and home in Laurel after completion of his medical training. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel. Eleanor served with many charitable organizations and boards, giving generously of her time. She was a vibrant part of the Laurel community, and Eleanor will be missed by many cherished friends. 
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband on November 14, 1977, and her brother, Joseph B. "Dick" Bernheim on November 6, 2008. She is survived by her son, Richard L. Bass (Laurel); her brother P.G. (Lyn) Bernheim , Sr., Gulfport; nieces, Stephanie (Harry) Hebert, Lafayette, LA., Lynn (Bud) Irving, Magnolia, TX, Paulette (Jimmy) Garton, Columbus, Marsha (Mike) Brown, Pass Christian, Michelle (Ben) McMath, Diamondhead, Nancy (Mike) Reeves, Columbus, and Amanda (Kevin) Buckley, Richmond, VA; and nephews, P.G. (Machelle) Bernheim, Jr., Madison and Dr. Peter (Kaye) Bernheim, Gulfport; and many grand nieces and nephews. 
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers who cared for her at the Orchard while Eleanor resided there. 
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, at the Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Visitation will be held before the service at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
