Jim Bevers Obituary

Long time Jackson resident and broadcast journalist, Jim ("J.R.") Bevers passed away Wednesday, November, 17, 2010, at age 69, after a brief battle with cancer.
A graduate of Santa Rosa High School, Santa Rosa, Texas and Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas, Jim began his career in broadcasting working at the University's late-night, easy listening radio show at age 18. He then moved on to the local Brownwood radio station, KBWD, where he worked as a DJ on a popular rock & roll show, eventually called "The Eager Beaver Show". While attending Howard Payne, he became the editor of the award-winning, first colored yearbook.
After managing a radio station in Miami, Oklahoma, Jim began his straight-forward news career at WFAA in Fort Worth, Texas. His love of politics then brought him to Jackson as News Director for the Mississippi Radio Network, which eventually evolved into the now known TeleSouthCommunications/SuperTalk Radio station. Jim retired two years ago, still enjoying politics and his family.
Jim is survived by his sister, Janis Bevers Petru; brother-in-law, Jim Petru, of Brandon, MS; niece, Danielle Petru Fulton and husband, Chad Fulton; and great-nephew, Landon Fulton of Ridgeland, MS.
