Marian Brasfield Obituary

Marian Manning Brasfield

Jackson

Marian Manning Brasfield, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on January 24, 2015. She was born in Quanah, Texas, on November 10, 1922, to the late Guy William Manning and Blanche Brewton Manning. Marian grew up in Dallas, Texas and moved to Lubbock, Texas in her teens. She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech. She met her husband, Robert O. Brasfield, Jr. (a.k.a. Babe and Brass), who was stationed in Lubbock during World War II, where they were married, and later settled in Lorman, MS, at his family home after the war ended. He died in 1980 and she later moved to Jackson, MS, to be near her children. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Guy William Manning, Jr. (Yvette). What an inspiration and delight to her children and family she was; never judging and always seeing the best in everyone and every situation with a smile on her face. Some of her favorite things in life were gardening, reading, sewing, daily crossword puzzles, playing bridge, listening to great music, dancing and a glass of scotch in the backyard while being entertained by her grandchildren. Toward the end, one of the few pleasures left her were the bright faces of her grandchildren which always seemed to give her energy unlike anything else.

She is survived by her children, Jacksonians Jill Brasfield Fair, Robert Oscar Brasfield,III "Bob" (Lynn), and Julie Brasfield Gilchrist (Bob). Also sending her to rest are her grandchildren Michelle Majure Turba (Mark) of Tupelo, Robert Oscar Brasfield IV (a.k.a. Brass) of Brandon, Brandy Autumn Brasfield of Nashville, Tn, Whitney Marian Gilchrist of Jackson, and Robert Alford Gilchrist, Jr. (a.k.a. Bob and Papa Peachez) of Hollywood, California. Also, to her pleasure, she had two great grandchildren, Samantha Maxine Turba and Zachary Noah Turba of Tupelo.

She also has three nieces, Jacqueline Manning Chambers (Tim) and Marsha Manning (Pete Aller) of VanCouver, Washington and Shelley Manning Moerbe of Electra, TX.

The family would like to give special recognition to Karen Lyle Camp and Hospice Ministries for their services in her time of need.

A celebration of her life will be held in Natchez in the spring followed by a graveside service at Cane Ridge cemetery in Lorman where her ashes will be buried beside her husband.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to French Camp Academy, Hospice Ministries or the charity of your choice.

Marian was my Aunt whom I loved and enjoyed her stories of the past. In her last few years we would sit on the patio eating a bowl of ice cream like two children having fun enjoying the birds, flowers,, scr n try and conversation. That was one of my sweet memories of my Aunt Marian. I love and miss you, Aunt Marian.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I know Momma is in a better place, not suffering, and praising Jesus. May God give peace and love to Jill, Bob, Julie and the family.
