Russell Clanton Obituary

Russell Weeks Clanton, 76, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Visitation is 5pm-8pm today, and after 10am Friday, September 3, 2010, at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd. Chapel services are 11am Friday at Lakewood on Clinton Blvd, with interment following in the Lakewood South Memorial Park on McClure Rd in Jackson.
Mr. Clanton was born in Grenada, MS in 1934. He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. When he returned, he met and married the love of his life, Nelia Braswell. In 1952, he began working for Mississippi Valley Gas and retired in 1999 after 47 years of faithful service. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, and enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. One of his favorite activities was to spend his days working on the farm with his best buddy, his grandson Jared. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Mr. Clanton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nelia "Nita" Braswell Clanton; and his parents, Russell A. and Fannie Clanton.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Clanton and wife, Barbara, of Clinton, MS; three grandchildren, Susanna Young, Jared Clanton and Jillian Clanton; three brothers, Larry Clanton and his wife, Sylvia of Tchula, MS, Jim Clanton and his wife, Dreda, of Florence, MS, Charles Clanton and his wife, Karen of Kosciusko, MS.
Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Clanton to the Baptist Children's Village.
