MILDRED ARTHRELL Obituary

ARTHRELL MILDRED ELIZABETH ARTHRELL, 97, who lived almost all her life in Oberlin, died on Dec. 22, 2010, in Tulsa, OK, after a long illness. She was born on Jan. 6, 1913, near Wellington, OH, where she graduated from high school in 1931. She then enrolled at the Oberlin School of Commerce, where she graduated in 1932, at the height of the Great Depression, where she became a teacher, while she was still a teenager. She was employed at the Worthington Ball Company, in Elyria, as executive secretary, where she met her future husband, George William Arthrell. They were married in 1939. She graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor's Degree in 1965 and a Master's Degree in 1970. She taught elementary school in Oberlin Public Schools for 18 years, where she excelled as a reading teacher, as well as other subjects. After retirement in 1978, she began a new career as a renowned lecturer and story teller. She specialized in my many subjects, including Laura Ingalls Wilder, Teddy Roosevelt, Harriet Tubman, Lewis and Clark and the Oregon Trail. She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Clayton Haulk; her beloved husband, George. She is survived by her sons, Daniel and William Arthrell, daughter-in-law, Claudia; two grandsons, Justin and Michael and their wives and a great granddaughter, Millie Jr. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Church in Oberlin, at the corner of Main St. (Rt. 58) and Lorain St. (Rt. 511)
