DUNCAN - Edward Iwan, 84, of Duncan, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at the Birchwood Manor in North Bend.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Frank Jindra and Rev. Joseph A. Miksch officiating.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, at St. Stanislaus Church. Visitation continues Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church.
Following the services, Ed's body will be donated to the State Anatomical Board and Creighton University for research.
Memorials may be directed to the Platte County Historical Society.
Edward A. Iwan was born July 8, 1922, in Polk County to Charles and Mary (Gonka) Iwan. He married Darlien Karges on May 24, 1948 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Ed farmed for 25 years before being employed as a sheet metal worker at Metalcrafters in Columbus until retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Holy Name Society and the Platte County Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, cooking, canoeing, reading, collecting cactus and finding Indian artifacts.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Maynard) Iwan Flamme of North Bend; sons, Charles (Deborah) Iwan of Kearney, David (Barb) Iwan of Duncan and Timothy (Sandra) Iwan of Ogallala; sister, Frances Kropatch of Osmond; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlien K. Iwan; father, Charles Iwan; mother, Mary Iwan; granddaughter, Elizabeth Iwan; sister, Mary Ann Boruch; brother, Louis Iwan; sister, Dora Peterson; and sister, Helen Shefcyk.
