Robert "Bob" Kasik, 78, of Columbus, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at his home in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Joe Miksch celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the Wilson Cemetery (north of Richland). Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, with a 7 p.m. vigil service at the church. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday, also at the church. Memorials are suggested as those of the family choice.
Bob was born on May 29, 1941, in rural Richland, to Emil and Catherine (Moser) Kasik. He played on the Schuyler High School state champion football team and graduated in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army, spending eight years in the army reserves.
On Nov. 16, 1963, he married Maryann Papousek. Bob farmed for over 30 years in Colfax County, both on the family farm and jointly with his brother, Kenneth. He worked at Hudson Foods and Flexcon in Columbus until he retired in 2009.
Bob, an avid story-teller, found both serenity and accomplishment in nature. He most enjoyed raising cow-calf pairs; his fondest memories were moving cattle to pastures as far as Ainsworth (God's country). He looked forward to deer season and the annual turkey hunt to Verdigre. He loved camping with Maryann, especially in Yankton and Ponca. He shared this passion with his grandchildren, taking them fishing and grilling on annual camping trips. In retirement, he moved from the field to the garden, cultivating crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet corn.
Bob is survived by wife, Maryann Kasik of Columbus; son, Randy Kasik of Columbus; daughter, Deanna (Craig) Keller of Gretna; grandchildren: Austin, Zachary and Christian; son, Bryan (Crystal Riley) Kasik of Richland; grandchildren: Karen (Gerardo Marino) Kasik and children, Trenton, Laylani, Aiden and Everhett; Kody (Shantelle Bruhn) Kasik and child, Kimber; son, Matt (Lisa) Kasik of Lincoln; grandchildren: Paige, Leighton and Ashlynn; sisters: Shirley Wagner of Winnetoon and Carolyn Brichacek of Leesburg, Virginia; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Joyce Kasik, and Kenneth and Jane Kasik, both of Schuyler, and Lawrence and Marilyn Kasik of Richland; brother, Gerald Kasik of Spokane, Washington; sister-in-law, Joan Kasik of Lincoln.
