1917 - 2011

PEMBROKE - Florence G. Roy, 94, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Hackett Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester, where she was recently admitted in its rehabilitation center.

She was born on Oct. 11, 1917, in Lowell, Mass., the daughter of Anestor and Laura (Laurence) Houle.

Florence was employed at Sprague Electric in Concord for many years before her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles, loved playing cards and hosting card parties, and was an avid Red Sox fan. Over the years, "Mrs. Roy's peanut butter fudge" became very popular around town and everyone agreed it was second to none. She loved receiving the many requests for her fudge from family and friends and for various fundraising events. She enjoyed winter vacations in Memphis and her yearly trips to the casinos in Tunica, Miss.

Florence was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 28, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, and the St. Theresa Rosebush Society.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Herve Roy, in 1972; her son Marcel in 1977; and two grandsons, Shawn Noel in 1993 and Scott Noel earlier this year in February.

Members of her family include two sons, Richard Roy and his wife, Leah, of Pembroke and Raymond Roy and his wife, Joanne, of Strafford; two daughters, Jackie Noel and her husband, Allan, of Hooksett and Denise Toperzer and her husband, Keith, of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Angela Estabrook, Christopher and Kristina Roy and Jody Toperzer; and six great-grandsons, Zachary, Bailey, Hunter and Scotty Noel, and Jacob and Benjamin Estabrook. Florence was looking forward to the arrival of her first great-granddaughter in December. She is also survived by a brother, Maurice Houle of Dracut, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.

With grateful hearts, the family thanks the staff at Hackett Hill Healthcare Center for the compassionate care given to their mother during the last weeks of her life.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke, where members of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Rosebush Society will hold a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, followed by burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
