Funeral services for Clayton Todd will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church of Willis with Bro J.V. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Shiro Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2013 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Clayton was born January 28, 1931 in Navasota, Texas to Clayton and Nita Todd and passed away February 4, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. Clayton served our country in the United States Air Force. Clayton graduated from Shepherd High School in 1947 and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education in 1962. At 19 yrs of age, he enjoyed his first year of teaching 18 year old seniors. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Willis, where he served as a deacon and youth Sunday school teacher and music director. He also loved sports and football. Clayton was a past superintendent and football coach for North Zulch ISD and Willis ISD. He was also a previous principal and football coach at Montgomery ISD and Shepherd ISD. Clayton had a passion for educating children; especially those who were in their last years of school and embellishing them with tools and wisdom to take with them into the future so each could mature into productive individuals. He loved coaching football playing golf, good music and poetry. Clayton and his wife were the founders and owners of Todd's School of Merit, which they ran for 15 years. When retirement was not as much fun as some might think, Clayton and Jean opened the Lighthouse School of Excellence, which has been in operation for the past 10 years. Clayton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean Todd; sons, Mark Todd and wife Peggy, Kendall Todd and wife Stella and Toby Todd and wife Samantha; grandchildren, Tara Steward and husband Drew, Cynda Parish and husband Desergio and Callaham Todd and wife Meagan, Kyle Todd and wife Stacey, Clay Todd, Annye Todd, Kirt Todd, Callie Todd and Colton Todd; great grandchildren, Andie Lynn Steward, Kason Todd and Kannon Todd; sister, Valera Phelp. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives survive, as well as, a host of loving friends. You are invited to leave a written condolence to the family at www.cashnerconroe.com In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Clayton to the First Baptist Church of Willis, Building Fund, 12177 Interstate 45 Willis, TX 77318

Dear Jean, I was so sad to hear of Clayton Wayne's death and so very sorry that I did not know in time to attend the funeral. I would have definitely been there. My mother was so fond of him and his mother so I have felt a special bond also. He served as a pallbearer for both my mother and my daddy and was so gracious and kind during those times. Please extend my deepest sympathy to the rest of your family. All of you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Jane (Bell) Henderson

Our thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Todd and her precious family. Sadden for your loss, but rejoicing for the rewards Mr. Todd has received now. God had gifted Him with many gifts, love, kindness meekness, patience, loyalty and many more that He used everyday. He inspired me and gave me great advice as I worked for Him at Todd's School of Merits. I was blessed to have Mr. and Mrs. Todd's friendship. With moving away many years ago, I still have them in my heart and knew the friendship would always be. I love them very much and will continue to look forward for the great reunion day and no more separation. God comfort you all and love to each of you.

God speed Mr Todd. You will truly be missed by all. Thank you for hiring me and giving an opportunity I would not have had other wise. And for sticking by your principles with the Lighthouse. Like you and your family I too love children and education and above all else I love God. And thank you Coach Todd for taken over the Lighthouse and keeping it going for us, the kids and your parents. For keeping there dream and legacy alive through education and the love of God. I'm sorry for not being there but I will be at work doing the job you hired me to do. My mind and heart will be there with your family though. Till that day we meet again. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Coach Todd was one of my first teachers when I went to Willis High School. He told me that no freshman had ever passed his biology class and that made me determined to prove him wrong. I passed but probably because he made me so determined. He was not only my teacher but in later years became a wonderful friend. It was an honor for me to cater his and Jean's 50th wedding anniversary. He was a ture inspiration. God be with you all and bring you peace...He will truly be missed.

It doesn't seem possible that Mr. Todd is no longer here with us. I remember going to Todd's School of Merit when I was little for many years. He was such a wonderful man. He is the reason my baby goes to The Lighthouse now. Just think we have another wonderful angel watching over us now. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

The Todd family is in our thoughts and prayers. We so appreciate all that Mr. Todd has done for us as a family. Not only did Andi grow up with the best of love and care from the Todd family but Jordan also got her first taste of employment at The Lighthouse. I was privileged to work with both Samantha and Kirt and the same family values is engrained all the way throughout. We will miss Mr. Todd deeply. He is a model of a great Christian man. We love this family and are proud to have the privilege of knowing each one. Hugs.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Clayton Todd. I first met the Todd's when they were in Montgomery. Then when I lived in Willis for 15 years, my older kids Clinton and Brandi Branch went to Todd's School of Merit. When we moved to Anderson we kept in contact with the Todd's all these years. The last time we saw the Todd's was when they attended my daughter Brandi's wedding in September of 2012. Our family adores this family and will miss Mr. Todd greatly. I just recently sent him a birthday card as I have for the last 30 years or so - I always remembered his birthday because it was on the same day as my dad's, Frank Hoffart of Dobbin. Not until his death did I realize that he and my dad were not only born on the same day but the same year too. He is now even more special in my heart. My family attended their 50th wedding anniversary party and it is hard to believe that that was 12 years ago. To Mrs. Todd and and their family, my condolences.

I have so many fond memories of Clayton Wayne, I don't even know where to start. Clayton Wayne had a huge sense of family. He always organized the Todd Family Reunions, along with my sweet mother, Audrey Lee Bailey Unrath. It would usually start with a phone call. Mom would either call Clayton Wayne, or he would call my mom. They enjoyed planning those reunions so! What a wonderful time of family visiting, great food, and Todd pride! Clayton Wayne was so proud of the Todd family, as was my mother. He was my mother's absolute favorite cousin, and she loved him so much. She talked of him so fondly over the years, of Uncle "Clayt" as she called his dad, and sweet Aunt Nita, who was a friend to everyone. This world has lost a great man, and I am honored to be a member of his family.

To the Todd family, you have our deepest sympathy. I was so grateful for Todd's School of Merit and all of my kids went through there. I knew I was leaving them in the best of hands. Mr. & Mrs. Todd, you were so wonderful along with your staff. My oldest daughter, Jena, even worked there after school. That was her first job. So many wonderful memories. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless. From The Hilley Family (Willis, TX)

He was a great teacher,in high school as well as a boss at Todd's School. He was a great coach and friend for my husband and a great fishing partner even through they fed the duck's mostly. My heart goes out to you Mrs Todd (Ruby & James Turner )
February 6, 2013
My children Joshua and Caleb Roberts along with numerous nieces and nephews will forever remember Mr. Todd. He was a great man and I know that any parents that had children enrolled in Todd's School of Merit will admit that one of the most important concerns we faced as parents was to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that out children would be loved and taught the values of life while being left at daycare. That is what Mr. and Mrs Todd did for us and we will always be thankful.
One humorous story: Mr. Todd always made you feel that the day would be OK even if it started out wrong. One morning while getting ready for work I was in such a rush that I put two completely different sandals on. One was just enough higher that the other that it felt like something was on the bottom of my shoe. I was in such a rush that I never looked at my feet until I had dropped Josh & Caleb off at Todd's and was headed back out the front door. I then noticed the shoes and knew everyone else had noticed too. To check my theory, I asked Mr Todd if he noticed anything odd about my appearance. He looked at me for a while and said "Absolutely Not" then we both laughed. Mr. Todd, you will be greatly missed.

Mr. Todd was our family friend from before my birth!! We shared many good times!! Mark was upset with me when he dreamed I ate his bacon when we were preschoolers. We ate homemade stew at your home in North Zulch one night followed by pancakes for dessert. What a treat!! We have been blessed by your presence in the Panhandle of Texas on several occasions most recently to celebrate dads 90th birthday in 2011! You will be missed terribly. Mrs. Todd and boys, we love you, count you as family and pray for God's loving comfort as you deal with this void in your lives!

It's amazing to see how many generations are represented in the previous comments. For my part, I am so grateful that the Todds were part of my early life, when he was Coach Todd to us at WHS in the '60s. Even-handed, soft-spoken (except maybe on the football field), and fully invested in educating students. That same commitment continued with many other generations in our family, He did not waiver from his ideals and values. And we learn best from those who care. Mrs. Todd, I am so sorry you have lost your lifelong partner and hope you somehow know how much we all care. We share your grief, but we also share your faith and are assured the Lord is with you.

Clayton Wayne was a senior at Shepherd High School when I was in the second grade there. My sister was a member of his graduating class. Clayton Wayne, along with his mother, Mrs. Vick, and the rest of the family, was admired and respected. Ironically, my father and stepmother later owned and ran the store owned by the Vick family. They also owned and lived in the Vick home. I extend my condolences and remind you of God's promises. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Why would one mourn unless he had great love for the departed? May God use the knowledge of that love to help bring you comfort and solace.

As I mentioned on facebook earlier, Mr. TOdd was like an Angel on Earth to me and my family! He was such an inspiration to my girls as they were growing up at Todd's School of Merit. Mr. Todd was great with them and taught them so much!! He taught and expected them to be children of GOD!! I walked through those doors so many times and found him speaking the WORD of God to the children and it made my heart sing. Going to miss him so much and am praying for his family to find peace in knowing that is is now serving our God in heaven as an Angel just as he did here on Earth! Only now he is at peace and without illness and pain!! GOD BLESS THE TODD Family!!!!
