Russell Moss Obituary

Russell Albert Moss passed away on March 17, 2012. Russell was born May 24, 1919 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Charles Everett Moss and Clara Frances Moss. Russell married Frances Emma Hanf on August 3, 1940 his wife of 72 years. Russell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Russell Moss a highly decorated World War II Veteran was inducted into active service on February 23, 1943. He was on the first wave of landing crafts to assault on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, D-Day. Russell in a fox hole thanked "GOD" for having his hand on him and protecting him. He made a promise to our Lord and Savior that if he would see him through this terrible ordeal he would work for his kingdom. Three days later Russell removed his fatigue clothes and discovered three bullet holes pierced through his army fatigues. Russell said, "GOD has kept his end of the bargain, now it is my time to keep mine." From this moment on Russell became a soldier in "Gods Army" until the day Our Lord & Savior called him to serve in his heavenly army.

Decorated Veteran of World War II in the European Theater of Operation, Presidential Unit Citation, France Croix De Guerre with Palms, Good Conduct Medal, (4) Battle Stars-Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland, Arrow Head for the Invasion of France, "Omaha Beach" Normandy Landing, Bronze Star Award for Meritorious Services.

After the war in 1952, Russell and Frances Moss moved to the Houston area to reside until today. Russell was preceded in death by parents: Charles and Clara Moss, brother, Erwin Owen Moss, and first son Donald Charles Moss.

He is survived by Frances Moss, wife of 72 years and their two children and families; daughter Gail Beale and husband, Ron, oldest son Ronnie, wife Jennifer and their children Brenna, Kierstein; son Rick and wife Lashelle and their children Brandon, Jeremy, and Matthew: son Rusty and wife Shawn and their children Tyler, Ashton, and Cameryn. Their son, Gary Moss and wife Jan, their daughter Heather Burrer, husband Scott, and their son Foster. Son Charles Skyler Moss and wife Nicole Moss.

Russell and Frances kept his promise to our Lord and Savior by starting three new churches in the Houston area and serving as first President and Director of each of the three churches. He served as past assistant and state director for AARP, served as first President of Magnolia/Montgomery Chapters of AARP. Russell served as People Serving People-Federal Commodity Program. He represented Montgomery County on the HGAC- Houston Galveston Aging Council.

Our family would like to thank the following individuals and services for their dedication and hard work for helping our father through this time of his life: Dr. Steven Stowers, nurse: Michelle, the employees of Elmcroft Assisted Living, Traditions Hospice: especially Lynn and Sharon, Brenda at Park Manor, Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home: Roxie and Will, Walden Community Church: David Kenny and Lorraine Deaton.

A visitation / viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home: 20850 Eva St., Montgomery, Texas. Services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11: 00 a.m. at Walden Community Church: 12400 Walden Road, Montgomery Texas. Burial services will be from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas. You may leave a condolence message on our website at www.shmfh.com
