Alan Leroy Wangler
Yankeetown, IN.
Alan Leroy Wangler, 78, of Yankeetown, Indiana passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014. Alan was born September 3, 1935, to the late Edward and Lula Mae (Kemp) Wangler in Hatfield, Indiana.
He was a 1953 graduate of Boonville High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958. Alan had an Associate of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana State University. He also held a State of Indiana Teacher's License in Trade and Industrial and K-12. He was a member of American Legion Post #0044, Newburgh and the 40 & 8. He served fifty years on the Yankeetown Volunteer Fire Department, he is now a Charter and Honorary member, he was a fifty year gold card lifetime member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighting Association, he served on the Anderson Township Advisory Board, as President.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carmen Harlow and brother-in-law, Walter, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doras and Gloria Hart.
Alan is survived by his wife, Doris Jaira Lee of 51 years; his daughter, Misty Wallace and son-in-law, David of Yankeetown; his son, Jason Wangler and daughter-in-law, Samantha of Yankeetown. He is also survived by a sister, Belva Hutchinson of Evansville and many nieces and nephews.
Alan was Pepaw to Benjamin Alan Wallace of Newburgh, Katelynn Eden (Bradley), Tucker Eden (great-grandson) of Boonville and Kassandra Wallace of Yankeetown. He was Papaw to Colton (Cj), Macey and Trent Alan Wangler. Alan loved spending time with his family.
In 2008, Alan was the recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Indiana Governor Mitch E. Daniels. The Distinguished Hoosier Award is presented to Indiana individuals who give their time and talents out of an abiding sense of talents out of responsibility, commitment and concern for others, and who has earned the respect and admiration of Hoosiers across the State. Alan retired from Alcoa after 42 1/2 years.
Funeral Service 1:00 pm Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel with Rev. Phillip Elikofer officiating. Burial will be in Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown with military rites by American Legion Kapperman Post 44.
Friends may call from 2:30 pm until 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel and again from 11:00 am until service time 1:00 pm Thursday.
