Jean Fox Obituary

Jean Bernice (Byrd) Fox, 79, of Evansville, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.

Jean was the youngest of four daughters born to the late William and Roberta (White) Byrd on July 10, 1928, in Fredonia, Ky.

She retired from the Vanderburgh County Building Authority in 1990 after 20 years of service. She was a member of Independence Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the kitchen committee. She served faithfully until her illness made it impossible for her.

She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie J. of Evansville; 5 sons, James K. (Patricia), Bruce E. (Marlene), Willie T. Jr. (Laura), Bobby G. and Gregory S., all of Evansville; a sister, Paulette Hill of Marion, Ky.; 2 brothers-in-law, Edward and Robert A. Fox, both of Evansville; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willie T. Fox Sr., in October 1994, son, Anthony Wayne in May 1994, her parents and two sisters.

The family would like to give special thanks to Rhonda Withers and the nursing staff at Westpark Rehabilitation Center and to her great-nieces, Lee Mecha Garrett and DeJa Vass for their loving care of "Aunt Jean."

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Adrian Brooks I, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Final care and arrangements entrusted to Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel.

To Bonnie and Family:
On behalf of the Gray and Browder family I want to take this time to extend our sympathy to you. As a child, I remember Mrs. Jean sitting next to my mom in the choir singing soprano at Independence Baptist Church. I remember one of the songs she would lead all the time was "Don't You Need My Savior Too." She will be missed. God bless you during this time.
