Robert Castillo Obituary

Defiance - Robert "Bobby" Castillo, age 67, of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born on July 31, 1954, to Eliseo and Inez Castillo. On March 23, 1973, he married the love of his life, Vicky Lacey. Their love for each other was apparent to everyone around them. They were a true example of love, especially to their children, LaDonna (Dan Maynard), Jessica (Jason) Noirot, Toby (Heidi) and Cory (Suzi).

Bobby graduated from Defiance High School in 1972 and was hired into General Motors shortly after. He retired from GM after 30 years in 2002. He then worked security at Menard's for 11 years, until he had his stroke.

Those that knew Bobby knew of his love for all sports. He played men's softball for years in city and church leagues in Defiance, Bryan and Paulding. He was also an umpire for junior girls leagues, JV and varsity softball. He coached his children and grandchildren in various sports, primarily softball. He even played on a coed softball team with his kids and their spouses. Many kids in town were lucky to have played for him. After hanging up his softball cleats he loved watching and supporting his grandchildren and all Bulldog athletes. Many of them called him "pepa", often coming up to him and giving him a hug. He also loved everything Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Lakers and was a die hard Ohio State Buckeye fan. He loved attending a professional game.

Bobby was a member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and Awana over the years. He was a godly man and that was apparent to all around him. He attended Xperience church for the last 8 years.

Bobby's loving personality and infectious smile will be missed by his wife, his children and their spouses. His legacy will live on through his 13 grandchildren, Austin, Cameron (Karlee), Kobe, Keagan, Haydon, Triston (Marlena), Kendall, Garon, Kinley, Brogan, Kolton, Mason and Miley, and his two great-grandchildren Cruz and Luna Love. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Juan and Eliseo Jr. and a sister, Olga.

To celebrate Bobby's life there will be an open visitation at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel, 1753 S. Clinton St., on Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 2-8 p.m. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home and our lounge area will remain closed. The funeral service will take place at Xperience Church on Monday, January 24 at 11 a.m., with one hour of visitation before the service from 10-11 a.m. Entombment will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
