Calvin Irwin Obituary

IRWIN Calvin Winfield Irwin, husband of the late Jean Ann Irwin and father of Deborah Ann Irwin, went home to be with our Lord and savior suddenly Saturday, March 21, 2009. He would have turned 84 on April 11, 2009. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Calvin James Irwin and Jessica, Irwin he had been a Fairfield-Westport resident for more than 60 years. Following his graduation from Bucknell University in 1945, he served as a Naval Officer in Japan at the end of World War II. He was later recalled to service during the Korean War. Following his military service, Mr. Irwin began his corporate career. He served as director of Corporate Development at Pitney Bowes until 1974 when he left corporate life to pursue a second career. In 1975, he founded and owned the Yankee Lumber Company in Wilton for 30 years and sold the hectic business as he approached his 80th birthday. Mr. Irwin then created a new business with three partners, Yankee Cabinetry of Westport, of which he continued to be 100% active until his sudden passing. He will be fondly remembered as a man of honor and integrity and will be truly missed by all who loved him. A private Christian Burial was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Irwin to a worthy charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. To offer the family an online condolence please visit www.SpearMillerFuneralHome.com
