Carroll W. Dawson

DAWSON Carroll W. Dawson, age 85, beloved husband of Alma Barbieri Dawson, of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, died on Monday, January 6, 2003, in Hollywood, Fla. Born in New York City, Carroll resided most of his life on Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Bridgeport when he retired in 1988. He was a graduate of Wagner College, class of 1939, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in both the European and North African theaters. He worked for the American Maritime Insurance Co. for 40 years, and was the secretary of the board before his retirement. Carroll was an avid reader, an accomplished writer, a member of Great Books of the New York Public Library, and traveled extensively throughout Europe. Carroll was proud of his family’s history, which he was able to trace back to the Mayflower’s crossing. In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his daughter, Margaret Dawson of Santa Cruz, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dawson of Massachusetts; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Dawson. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet his family on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
