Doreen O'Connell Obituary

Doreen O'Connell
Doreen O'Connell (nee Montague), 66, passed away on March 25, 2023 at her home in Ansonia, Connecticut (former resident of Fairfield) after courageously battling cancer for 10 years. Doreen was born in Bronx, New York on December 31, 1956 to the late John and Kathleen Montague. She worked at Janney Montgomery Scott as the Branch Operations Manager for over 20 years where she enjoyed building strong bonds with her clients and coworkers. Loving wife of 24 years to Pat O'Connell from Skibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland and Fairfield, Connecticut. Beloved mother of Kelli Caryl (Josh), Tara Herr (Tim), Timothy Gavin and Margaret. Devoted grandma of Kaylee, William, Skylar and JJ. Caring mother-in-law of Josh Caryl and Tim Herr. Cherished sister of Sheila, Eileen, Kathleen and the late Johnny. Dearest sister-in-law of Tommy Kanganis, Celia Bastone and Anne Daly. Proud aunt of nephews Tommy, Sean, Noel and Michael. Lifelong friend of Patrick Gavin, Sharon and Noel McGovern, Liz O'Neill and Dave Howe. Proud member of Friends of Irish Freedom, Irish Northern Aid and the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield. Doreen was adored for her big heart and enjoyed spending time with family and close friends while hosting annual holiday parties, traveling on vacations and creating many memories with those she loved. She opened up her heart to those who needed her and was willing to lend a helping hand. Doreen was a true warrior and stayed strong throughout her battle and always had a bright smile, positive demeanor and optimistic outlook on life. Doreen was known for her unique love of arts and crafts, decorating, cooking, shopping and going to bingo, but her heart was most full when she was surrounded by her four children. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 30th at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824, from 2:00-8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 31st, at St. Pius X Parish, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT 06824, at 10:00AM. Dear Pat, Margaret, Kelli, Tara & Tim,
Our hearts are just breaking for all of you & the rest of Doreen's family!
One of the best things we ever did was to join the GAC because that's how we met you all. It was truly an honor to be called a friend of the O'Connells! Doreen, always with her open heart & contagious laughter, the hostess "with the mostest" if there ever was one, the summer picnics, the Christmas parties (with all her gorgeous decorations!), Margaret's graduation parties, and oh, her cooking was just out of this world! We will always be so grateful for all the joyful memories that she has left for everyone who was lucky enough
"to know her & to love her".
Now all the pain that she had to endure is gone & she's with the Good Lord & His angels, which we're sure that she is now one of them. We will never forget her!
With our Love & Many Prayers for Doreen, Pat & the children & family -- May God Bless You All & May He Send You Peace at this sad, sad time,
Anne & Joe Surber
