Eleanor MCGOVERN

MCGOVERN Eleanor Adam McGovern, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at age 82. Eleanor was born in Limestone, Maine, on March 29, 1927 to the late Andrew and Evelyn Adams. Growing up she was the school's drum majorette, leading her Limestone High School in all their events. Upon moving to Connecticut, she was employed by Avco Lycoming for more than a decade, before accepting a position with ITT in Shelton. In 1987, she joined her son at the newly formed Retina Systems, Inc., where she worked as receptionist and office manager until her retirement in 2006. Eleanor enjoyed gardening, traveling but mostly adored her seven children and family. She is survived by her devoted children, Natalie DelGiudice and husband, Arthur (Buzz) of East Haven, John A. Moir of Mars Hill, Maine, Betty Moher and husband, Attorney Michael Moher of Seymour, Carol Moir of Seymour, Floyd Moir and wife, Janice of Seymour, Graydon Mair and wife, Cindy of Hagerstown, Md., and Jackie Meissner and husband, Greg, Ellicott City, Md. She was the loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Eleanor is also survived by her two sisters, Gretchen Griffeth and Lucille Moir in addition to several nephews and nieces. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. Many will remember that special smile she always had, the loving heart and the unselfish giving of herself. Some will also remember the Skip-Bo card games which she was always up to the challenge. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at The Church of Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour, on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to SWIM Across the Sound, where she enjoyed volunteering her time, c/o St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
