Gerry was a favorite teacher of mine many many years ago. One reason would have likely been that my own background of Irish parentage and limited financial resources made him see me as someone who grew up from a background similar to his own. From helping me earn a scholarship to recommending me for an after school first job..he played a great role in getting me started in life. I was able to resume an e mail relationship with him about 5 years ago and we would occasionally stay in touch. I just became aware of his passing a few days ago. I will remember him always.
