Matthew Tomasco Obituary

Matthew A. Tomasco
Matthew A. Tomasco passed away peacefully on April 2, 2022, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, CT. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anita M. (Pronovost) Tomasco. Born in July 1932, Matt was the son of the late Paul and Anna Tomasco of Stratford. Matt lived in Stratford all of his life. Fate smiled upon him in the 1940s, when Anita's family moved near his home on Huntington Road. Initially childhood friends, Matt and Anita became high school sweethearts at Stratford High, where Matt graduated in 1950. They were married in 1955 and raised their two sons in the same house where Anita had grown up. A master carpenter and tireless worker, Matt built and remodeled houses throughout the greater Bridgeport area with Tommy Dugas. Matt made many additions to the home he shared with Anita, including a family room and a beautiful, screened porch where they spent many a pleasant day. He also constructed a unique cabinet-counter for the kitchen that hid a washer and dryer, a clever design that was featured in Better Homes & Gardens. A quiet man whose actions spoke louder than words, he never hesitated to help family, friends, and the community with carpentry and construction projects. His generosity will always be remembered and greatly missed. Matt was a long-standing and active parishioner of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Stratford. Over the years, he served on the parish council, assisted in running the annual church bazaar, and served as an usher and a counter. He also built the sets for numerous St. Mark's musical productions (as well as for those at nearby Bunnell High School). Matt and Anita were avid travelers; they went on numerous tours and cruises, exploring not only the United States but also Canada, Europe, and South America. An Army veteran, Matt served his country in the Korean War during 1953-54 and achieved the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Korean service medal, United Nations service medal, and the National Defense service medal. Matthew is survived by his son David Tomasco and his wife Nancy of Milford; his son Allan Tomasco and his wife Jean of Southington; and his beloved grandchildren, Stephen (and his fiancée Courtney), Katherine, Elizabeth (and her fiancé Keith), Brian, and Sarah Tomasco. He also leaves behind his sister, Dorothy Tomasco, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and Robert. Friends and family may visit on Friday, April 8th from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, CT 06614, The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or a charity of the donor's choice.
