Robert Noonan Obituary

NOONAN Robert Noonan, age 85, died peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Noonan was born in Bridgeport on October 16, 1922 and was a longtime Stratford resident. He was a graduate of Harding High School, Fordham University and received his medical degree at State University of New York, Down State Medical Center (formerly Long Island School of Medicine). He served his country proudly as a lieutenant in the Navy during the Korean War. Following the war, he was a family practice physician in the Bridgeport area. He was an active member of the Medical staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center for more than 45 years. It was there that he met his beloved wife of 57 years, Doris DuBret Noonan (whom he was predeceased by). He acted as a physician for the City of Bridgeport for the fire and police departments for many years. He was deeply religious and was actively involved in St. Charles Church in Bridgeport where he acted as trustee for a number of years and then later at Our Lady of Peace Church in the Lordship section of Stratford where he served on the finance committee. His patients adored him as he treated them and their families as people first and patients second. He always cared for them with dignity and respect and often continued to make house calls well into his later years. He retired in 1992 at the age of seventy. Everyone knew him as Doc. There was nothing more important to him than his family. He loved his life and his home on the beach. It was with them and there that he experienced a true sense of peace and tranquility. He loved playing golf with his "buddies" and he was the proud founder of the R.O.M.E.O. Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He can now rest in peace knowing that his beloved Red Sox have won not one but two World Series titles. There was no one in this world who loved a good joke or a prank as much as he did. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Glover and her husband, Philip of Bridgeport, Maureen Genga and her husband, Gary of Stratford, Dr. Robert "Bob" Noonan and his wife, Elaine of Needham, Mass., Coleen Franzese and her husband, Luciano "Louie" of Seymour, Dr. Thomas "Tom" Noonan and his wife, Judy of Stratford, and Doreen Nelson and her husband, Gary of Stratford. His grandchildren, Scott Glover and his wife, Jennifer, Kelly Glover, Dr. Melanie Janicki and her husband, Dr. Joseph, Nicholas and Jill Genga, Ryan Genga, Laura, Timothy, and Conor Noonan, Sean and Daniel Franzese, Thomas and Julianne Noonan, Katelyn Noonan, and Kylie and Kevin Nelson; his great-grandchildren, Emery Janicki and Skyla and Wade Genga. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Troy of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Catherine "Marty" Williams of Newtown; and two brothers, John "Jack" Noonan of Haddon Heights, N.J. and Harry Noonan of Baltimore, Md.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris DuBret Noonan; his parents, Robert E. Noonan; his mother, Catherine Regan Noonan; his children, Baby Boy Noonan, Eileen Noonan, and John "Jack" Noonan. We'd like to extend a tribute and special thanks to his caregiver, Nadiya Shkwyrkov, who became part of our family. It was only with her help and support that we were able to care for him in his home until close to the end. Friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to the Church on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Rd. Lordship, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday, December 30, 2007 from 3 to 7 p.m. in Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, Trumbull 399 White Plains Road. I had the pleasure of being one of Doc's patients(way back when). Everything that was said in his tribute says it all, there is nothing I can add.
May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Noonan's passing. He was a sincere man and a wonderful physician. He delivered my brother and me into this world over 40 years ago.

I wanted to thank him for his dedication to the profession. Being a nurse, it is extremely difficult at times to find a physician with that much passion who genuinely cares for his patients.

May he rest in peace with the Lord. God bless all of you in your hour of need.

To the Noonan family,
It is with great saddness that I learned of Dr. Noonan passing. I am not able to remember growing up with out thinking of him and his family. He cared for my family as if they were his own. Living on the other side of the home on Noble avenue was a special time in my life. Thank you all for sharing this great man with us. You all will be in my prayers.
