He was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Locust Gap, the son of the late Joseph P. and Amella Taylor Betz. He was the widower of the late Elizabeth I. Marlowe Betz.
Mr. Betz was a retired meat cutter, having worked at several retail stores, including the former Camp Hill Pantry Pride. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Dillsburg American Legion Post No. 26 and was a former member of the Mt. Holly Springs and Dillsburg VFWs. He also was a former member of the Meat Cutters Union.
He is survived by one son, James Betz of Dillsburg; two daughters, Valerie
J. Bentz of Dillsburg and Susan Betz-Hable of Mechanicsburg; three sisters, Mary Eileen Beierschmitt of Mt. Holly, N.J., Claire Ryan of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary Jo Ryan, Mt. Carmel; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph D. Betz, and two sisters, Valeria Schneieer and Dora Beierschmitt.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, with the Rev. George Traub officiating. Burial with military honors by the York County Veteran Honor Guard will be Wednesday with the funeral cortege assembling at the funeral home at 10 a.m. and proceeding to the Dillsburg Cemetery on Mountain Road.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
