Mr. Lininger, along with his wife, Paula, was the founder of MATRIX Publishing Services and MATRIX Art Services, for which he served as president.
He was well known nationally and internationally in the world of mineralogy as an author, publisher, lecturer and collector. He became fascinated with the science of mineralogy as a teenager and it continued all through his life, culminating with the publication of MATRIX, a journal of the history of minerals.
Mr. Lininger was the co-founder and lifelong member of the York Rock and Mineral Club and was active in the Pennsylvania Chapter of Friends of Mineralogy, serving as a board member and past president. Because of his love of the history of the science of mineralogy, he recently took over the design and publication of the chapter's newsletter.
He was a member of the West Shore Evangelical Free Church and, in the 1970's, was a member of the York area folk music group, "The Summit Singers."
He served as a medic in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Lininger is survived by his parents, Jesse L. Sr. and Laura Lininger of Haley's Station, Ontario, Canada; his wife of 30 years, Paula Lininger; two sons, Petty Officer Second Class Erik Lininger of Brunswick, Maine, and Petty Officer First Class Nathan Lininger of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Jill Donato of Swedesboro, N.J.; a stepson, Gregory Vasquez of Dillsburg; two stepdaughters, Jody Adair of Clemson, S.C., and Denise Rosenberry of Fannettsburg; a sister, Judy Lininger of Dillsburg; two brothers, David Lininger of Oxford, Mass., and Terry Lininger of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg.
Cocklin Funeral Home, Dillsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011-7705.

Paula,
Keith and I were so saddened to hear of your loss. We have such fond memories of you and Jay. We are asking God to hold you tight in HIS arms...just as HE is doing for Jay...right now. What comfort there is in knowing that. We send our love and will be praying.
Your Brother and Sister in Christ,

Paula, I am so saddened to learn of Jay's death. I have so many fond memories of him sitting in our living room and talking to Erston and I about minerals. When we were editors of our club newsletter we published some of his early articles about the history of minerals in PA. I learned so much as I typed them. Let's envision Erston and Jay talking minerals in heaven. My prayers are with you and your family as you adjust to life without him.

We cannot express the great sadness and shock we feel at the loss of our dear friend and mentor Jay Lininger. Penn Minerals exists today because of the support and focus given to me by Jay. Of all the joys this endeavor has to offer, it is the friendship and the camaraderie of this community that we value most. Jay led the way. Please lift up Jay, his wife Paula and their family with your prayers. He will be missed.

Words cannot express the grief and sadness we feel for the loss of Jay Lininger, a true professional and long-time friend. My 20-year association with Jay has been among my most cherished friendships in my many years in publishing, and Jay will be well-remembered, always, and sorely missed. Our heartfelt condolences to Paula and the entire Lininger family. Oxford University Press deeply mourns the loss of a lovely human being and a great friend.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then some one at my side says, "There, She's gone." Gone where? Gone from my sight that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her; and just at the moment when some one at my side says, "There, She's gone", there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "There she comes!" And that is Life! God Bless!
