Born: Dec. 5, 1944

Died: Aug. 19, 2014

Jeanette M. Brucker Heinisch, age 69, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at home, surrounded by family. She was born December 5, 1944 in Peoria, IL and was the daughter Marion and Dorothy (Holmes) Brucker. Jeanette married Carl J. Heinisch on February 3, 1968.

After receiving a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1966, she worked with 4-H in St. Charles, and then as a Home Economist with Roper Corporation. Jeanette taught kindergarten, nutrition, cooking, and floral design. She received an M.S. in Management from National College of Education in 1988. After coordinating many conferences at NIU, she retired as Director of Noncredit Programs for the College of Education at NIU.

Jeanette was active in many community organizations and received the Athena Woman of Accomplishment Award. She was actively involved as a 4-H leader and as an officer for St. Mary's Home and School, DeKalb Barb Boosters, Drama Club, and Altrusa International. She served on boards for DeKalb's garden walk, Kishwaukee Hospital, the Illinois Nutrition Association and the University of Illinois School of Human and Family Resources Alumni. She received the Illinois 4-H Service Award and the Chicago Department of Human Services Head Start Program Service Award. Jeanette was most pleased with initiating the annual Altrusa Spelling Bee as a fundraiser for literacy in DeKalb County.

Jeanette enjoyed her grandchildren most of all, as well as traveling, reading, flower gardening and arranging.

Jeanette is survived by her husband Carl; three sons, Doug (Heidi) of Syracuse, IN, Phil of Atlanta, GA, and Dan (Kim) of DeKalb; seven grandchildren, Brett, Cal, Meg, and Cameron of Indiana and Morgan, Cole, and Addison of DeKalb; and her brother, Maurice (Emiko Yank) Brucker of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Dorothy Brucker; and grandson, Drew Heinisch.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School in DeKalb or the KishHealth System Cancer Center in DeKalb or the DeKalb Public Library Building Fund.
