Pamela Bowman Obituary

Pamela S. Bowman
Born: March 25, 1942 in Waterman, IL
Died: November 6, 2023 in DeKalb, IL
Pamela Sue Bowman, 81, of Sycamore, IL, passed away, following a stroke, on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born March 25, 1942, in Waterman, IL and was the daughter of Robert and Esther (Boekenhauer) Dixon.
Pam was united in marriage on December 28, 1963, to her high school sweetheart, Robert Ray (Bob) Bowman, at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, IL. They spent 53 happy years together. Bob preceded her in death on November 28, 2016.
Pam was a long-time and faithful member of First Lutheran Church in DeKalb. She graduated from Waterman High School in 1960 and went on to Rockford Memorial Nursing School, earning her RN in 1963. Pam then worked as an Emergency Room nurse at Mattoon Hospital before relocating to DeKalb where she worked in surgery at DeKalb Public Hospital. Before retiring, she ended her 35 year career at DeKalb Clinic working with very special physicians and nurses in the surgery department. Her colleagues described her as a most dedicated and professional asset to the profession.
Pam loved life, but most of all she loved her family. She led our family with compassion and love. She was the true matriarch. All who knew her loved and respected her. Many came to her for advice, counsel and comfort. One of her greatest gifts was to make people feel welcome, loved and as if they belonged. Anyone who did not have a place to go for Thanksgiving was welcome at her table.
She and Bob traveled extensively throughout their marriage, and she continued this tradition with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite times were spent with family. She especially enjoyed her annual family trips to Turks and Caicos and Minnesota. She also loved gardening and relaxing with a good book.
Survivors include her two children; Amy (Kevin Swan) McCue-Swan of St. Charles, IL and Robb (Tina) Bowman of Aurora, IL; her grandchildren, Danny (Haley) McCue of Bonita Springs, FL, Eric and Amanda Bowman of Aurora, IL, and Garrett and Abby Swan of St. Charles, IL; her brother Robert (Carla) Dixon of Naples, FL; sisters Pat Ravatt of Las Vegas, NV and Penny (Art) Lanning of Tamarac, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Esther (Boekenhauer) Dixon, husband Bob Bowman, and son-in-law Kevin McCue.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Monday, November 20, 2023, at First Lutheran Church, 324 N. 3rd St, DeKalb, IL. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10:00 am, at First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Janet Hunt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in loving memory may be directed to The Bob and Pam Bowman Fund, c/o DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Ave, Sycamore, IL 60178 or First Lutheran Church, 324 N. 3rd Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
Cremation and arrangements were entrusted to Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St. DeKalb, IL 60115, 815-758-3841.

We are totally saddened to learn of Pam's passing. I was a new nursing grad when I began working at DeKalb Public in 1965, where I met Pam. She convinced me to transfer into the Surgery Department and she became my mentor and dear friend. What a great team to join....Dr. Biscan, Dr. Scott, Dr. Luedtke, and others. She then honored me with being a bridesmaid in my wedding. She and her Bob helped plan our Honeymoon to a place they had loved to visit. When four of us in the Surgery Department became pregnant at the same time, we were subject to much teasing. And we went on to have our babies, share playdates, and celebrate other important milestones together. Even after we moved to Arizona and then retired to Florida, we kept in touch and I treasured our continued friendship. "We want what we cannot have. The heart wants Life to go on and on." Dearest Pam, may you journey on in Peace and Love, and now be with your Bob. You were loved, you will be missed.

I only knew Pam for a little while! Her lovely act of kindness in sending over cookies when I moved across the street the end of May as wonderful! She was a very special neighbor. God bless her.
