Thomas Howard Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Dr. Thomas J. Howard entered into rest on Sunday, March 21, 2004 at University Hospital. There will be a committal service in the churchyard at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with the Very Reverend Robert Fain officiating. Dr. Howard, one of a long line of physicians, was born in Augusta on April 23, 1926, to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Leverman Howard. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1943, the Junior College of Augusta in 1945 and the Medical College of Georgia in 1949. He completed his internship at Macon Hospital in 1950. He served as a United States Army captain in Korea, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. He returned to Augusta after the war and was in private practice from July 1952 until his death. He was on the staff of St. Joseph Hospital and University Hospital and was a longtime member of the Augusta Country Club and the E piscopal Church of the Good Shepherd. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lura McPherson Howard; a daughter, Dr. Monique Howard Lentz and her husband, David Wayne Lentz and a granddaughter, Hilary Howard Lentz. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, or a charity of one's choosing. The family will receive friends at the home of Monique and David Lentz. Platt's Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave., 733-3636. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com

Lura and Monique, I was sorry to hear about Jack's passing. I remember a lot of good times, rides in the cadillacs and going to the horse shows when I was just a kid and Monique was a very small child. A Doctor, how proud Jack must have been!! Thoughts of you two, I know how sad you must be.

Remember the good times and the love, for that will forever live in your hearts.. KHH ( Lee and Mary's daughter)
