UNION CITY, IN -- John Allen Shockney, 64, of Union City, IN passed away April 14, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born October 11, 1957 in Lafayette, IN to the late John A and Lois Jane (Gilkison) Shockney. He married his loving wife, Cindy R. Thom, on December 31, 1977. She continues to reside in Union City, IN.
John was a loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was hardworking and always there to help anytime someone was in need. He spent many hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts and loved spending summers at Ransburg Scout Reservation in Bloomington, IN teaching scouts team building and rock climbing skills.
As a member of the US Coast Guard, he developed a passion for being out on open water. He was an advocate of sailing, loved to rent sailboats, and ride the winds across the Great Lakes.
John spent his final decade of life traveling for his business, AirPro Spray Foam Insulation. AirPro was a family business and his wife, Cindy, and sons, Lee and Jonathan, would travel with him to help with the business.
He enjoyed sharing his interests and passions with his family. He spent many hours teaching each of his children how to wrench on cars, shoot the center out of an ace of spades, and tie knots to safely enjoy rock climbing. We are all thankful for his guidance and support throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his step-mother, Helen Shockney, children; Lee Shockney of Union City, IN, April (Matthew) Graves of Avon, IN, Nichole (David) Linebaugh of Union City, IN, Samantha Shockney (Tom Stouffer) of Fort Collins, CO, Jonathan (Asuka) Shockney of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, sisters; Denise (David) Kienow of Union City, IN, Brenda (Kelley) McCarter of Bradenton, FL, and grandchildren; Hannah, Nathaniel, Annabelle, Makenzie, and Leon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gail (Shockney) McGuire and Fredrick Shockney.
A memorial visitation will be held on April 20, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at South Salem Church of Christ, 7126 E. 100 S, Union City, IN 47390. A celebration of life service will follow at 6:00 pm. Memories may be expressed online at www.reichardfh.com.
