Our Loving Mother

Born May 6, 1934 in San Pedro, CA passed away peacefully with her family at her side on December 4, 2015 in San Pedro. Joy was a lifelong resident of San Pedro. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Tomasello; father Carmen DeMeglio, mother, Carmela DeMeglio and sister Lucille (Frank) Pilichi. She is survived by her devoted and grateful children, Jan (Rick) Christensen, Jim (Kristi) Tomasello, grandchildren Erik (Jennifer) Christensen, Brianne Christensen, Kaitlin Tomasello, Emily Tomasello and great-grandchild Madelyn Christensen. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline (Fred) Hooker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joy graduated from San Pedro High School as part of the Winter Class of 1953. Joy and Tony were married in April 1953 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Tony's passing in 2008. Joy loved music. She was a product of the original Rock 'N' Roll generation reveling in the work of Elvis in the 50's, The Beatles in the 60's and The Eagles in the 70's. She also was very fashion-conscious and loved stylish clothing and accessories. Most of all, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her family was her life. Everyone she touched is better for having had her in their lives. Visitation will be Sunday December 13 1-6 PM at McNerney's Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 14 10:30 AM at Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park.
