Helen Gant

11/27/1922 - 01/21/2023 HELEN ANN GANT passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 21, 2023, at the age of 100. She was born on November 27, 1922, in Alberta, Canada, as the daughter of Thomas and Helena Dietrick. She moved to San Pedro, CA at the age of 3. Helen graduated from San Pedro High School, where she met the love of her life Robert Wesley (Wes) Gant. Just a few years later, on May 16, 1943 they married. Together they raised 5 beautiful children, Joyce Ann, Bob, John, Cathy, and Cindy. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing outfits for her grandkids, doing puzzles, her Wednesday Game Day, and her monthly In-N-Out Dinner nights with her grandkids. She worked for LAUSD in the cafeterias at most of the schools in San Pedro. She belonged to many clubs such as the Boosters Club, was President of the Mother's Club at Holy Trinity, Peck Park Senior Club, and the Better Half Club. She was a member at the YMCA and took swimming classes up until age 94. Helen was so proud of all five of her children. She was especially proud of how they all cared for her and came together toward the end of her life. The true meaning of the "circle of life". A special thank you also to her caregiver Mina (and her daughters Alex and Selma). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wes, her brothers Frank and Julie Dietrick, her sister Joyce Dalton, her son-in-law Vince Pirozzi, daughter-in-law Maryellen Gant, and grandson Joseph Pirozzi. She is survived by her daughters Joyce Ann Pirozzi, Cathy (Dave) Gonzalez, Cindy (Vince) Zankich, and sons Bob (Alma) Gant and John Gant, her eight beautiful grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Helen's life will be celebrated at a funeral mass on Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at 11:30 am at Holy Trinity Church, 1292 West Santa Cruz St., San Pedro.
