John M. Kellam

January 11, 2022 Avid traveler and retired professor and aerospace engineer John "Jack" Kellam passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2022 at the age of 88 during a minor medical procedure. He completed his Bachelor's degree at Purdue University, his Master's at Ohio State and earned his doctorate at Johns Hopkins University. Following a stint as an aerospace engineer in the industry, he taught at the University of Southern California and at California State University, Long Beach. Eventually he returned to the field, doing space shuttle research for Rockwell International. During this time, he took up surfing in his beloved Pacific Ocean. After retirement, Jack traveled the world extensively and enjoyed activities ranging from learning to fly small airplanes, to zip-lining, paragliding and skydiving. He loved classical music, concert-going, building WWII model airplanes and ballroom dancing. At 88, he remained spry and curious, looking forward to further adventures. Jack is survived by his three children: Richard, Marcia and Barbara, his grandson, Miles, his daughter-in-law, Tina, and his long-time partner, Mary Ann. A memorial service for Jack will be held at a future date.
