Dolores Montoya Obituary

Dolores Mary Montoya
April 11, 1938 - November 18, 2023

Dolores ""Lola"" Montoya passed away peacefully November 18, 2023 surrounded by her three children. She was 85 years old. Mom was born April 11, 1938 in Dos Palos, California. The family moved to Woodland in time for her to start kindergarten at The Walnut Street School. She graduated from Beamer Grammar School, attended Woodland High School her freshman year before transferring to St. Joseph's Academy in Sacramento. Mom was part of the last graduating class in 1956. She married Joe Montoya on June 11, 1960 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Woodland. They were married for 56 when Papi passed away in July 2016.
Mom worked at Yolo County Welfare Department, Contadina Foods, and the Hydrology Department at UC Davis before retiring in 2002. Mom enjoyed anything that involved family. She cherished the time she spent with her siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mama loved her McDonald's breakfast get-togethers with her cousins and lunches at Rafael's.
Mama was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her infant daughter Andrea, her parents Eliseo ""Pop"" and Mary G. Tafoya, her brothers Duke Tafoya and Eddie Tafoya. She is survived by her sisters, Anita Morales and Nicki Martinez, her children Andrea (Ted) Villanueva, Monica (Tim) Hogan, and John Montoya, her grandchildren, Alex (Breonna) Villanueva, Emily (Nick) Pickett, Kyle Hogan, and Erin Hogan, her great grandchildren Theodore Villanueva and Helena Lola Mae Villanueva and her forever faithful puppy, Tu.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staffs at Alderson Convalescent Hospital and Suncrest Hospice for the loving care they provided mom.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Church, 575 California Street. A catered reception will follow at the Hotel Woodland, 436 Main Street. Internment will be held on Friday, December 8 at The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon at 10:15.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or The Wreath Project (https://gofund.me/3f089fd2

Dolores and I were co-workers at UC Davis until retirement. She was a joy to be with, and we had many happy memories during our time together. I know she is with Jesus now and will meet me when I join her in Heaven. May God be with her family and bless them.

I was fortunate to have worked with Delores at UCD when I was a temp. She was a glowing, warm, and loving personality. I enjoyed every moment with her. I have missed her.
I know she is now with our maker and those gone before her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.
