Elsie M. George

Elsie M. George died on December 16, 2016 at her daughter's home in Columbus, OH. Born in Schenectady on November 29, 1920, Elsie Eliza Miller George was the daughter of Harry Howard Miller and Joanna Taylor Wright Miller, and wife of Kenneth Walter George for 52 years, before his death in 1996. She is survived by her brother, Edward Harry Miller; three children, David Lawrence George (Eileen) of Louisville KY, Martha (Marti) Sue George Rideout (Robert) of Columbus OH, Paul Eric George (Sandra) of Clifton Park NY; six grandchildren, William Henry George, Lissa Rideout Wade (Andrew), Lt. Col. Brian Rideout, USMC (Emily), Everett Thomas Belyea, Denise Belyea, Stacy Belyea; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews and niece, cousins and wonderful friends. Elsie was active in the Jonesville Methodist Church for many years, helping with the annual historic clambake on Labor Day weekend, making pies and cooking turkeys for church dinners, serving with the women's group (WSCS), making crafts for church sales, assembling newsletters and bulletins, and volunteering with the weekly Food Pantry. Through the years she enjoyed camping and trailer travel with her family, playing bridge with friends, serving as an usher at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and volunteering with the Red Cross blood drives. She traveled in Canada, France, England, Wales, throughout the United States, and vacationed at Cape Cod with family each summer. Her hobbies included knitting (in particular prayer shawls, hats for premature babies and cancer patients), making quilts (for grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandchildren of friends, and for babies in neo-natal units), reading, photography, acrylic and water-color painting, needlework, gardening, feeding and watching over her beloved birds in the yard. Road trips along country roads to see foliage and well-kept farms, wild life, covered bridges, rivers and lakes gave her added joy. She delighted in being with her loved ones, receiving phone calls, letters, emails and pictures, sitting on her front porch and chatting or waving to neighbors, tending to others when they were sick or in need. The family is most grateful to her dear friends and good neighbors in Jonesville who assisted her in so many ways, especially in the final years of her life. A memorial service will be held at Jonesville Methodist Church in the Spring, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Food Pantry of Jonesville Methodist Church at 963 Main Street, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
