Frederick Rosasco Obituary

Frederick Louis "Chip" Rosasco, 76, husband of Karen Kramer Rosasco, passed away December 24, 2018 at his home in Waynesboro, VA surrounded by family members following a courageous battle with a rare lymphoma. Chip was born in Flushing, NY in 1942, the son of Edward John and Margaret Edna Rosasco. He graduated from Dean Junior College, MA and from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a BS in art education and a Masters in ceramics and metals. After marrying his college sweetheart Karen, they settled in the capital district of upstate NY where he taught middle school art in the Niskayuna School System for 32 years including three years as the art department chair for the K-12 district wide program. Chip was an active member of the Delanson Volunteer Fire Company for over 42 years serving as a line officer and president. He also served as a trustee for the Delanson Village Board. Chip was an avid HO model railroad enthusiast with a bedroom-sized layout in every house he owned and after moving to VA in 2011 he enjoyed the Augusta County Railroad Museum and train club. Growing up on Long Island, NY he loved the sea, owning many sail boats and taking yearly voyages on tall ships in the Caribbean. He logged over 300 SCUBA dives around the world, taking underwater photos of the reefs, shipwrecks and sea creatures. Chip continued his fascination with ceramics at BRCC designing one of a kind original pieces. Chip and Karen also traveled the world enjoying the cultures of 5 continents. Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 53 years are his adored twin daughters Michelle DeMarmels and husband Michael of Waynesboro, Lori Eronimous and husband Kevin of Denver, brother Edward Rosasco and wife Barbara of FL and sister Elissa Rosasco and partner Pat of VA. The lights of his life were his three grandchildren Maggie and Eric Eronimous of Denver and Ryan DeMarmels of Waynesboro who loved their "Poppy". He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McDow Funeral Home, 1701 West Main Street, Waynesboro, VA. Later in the spring a second memorial service will be held in Delanson, NY. The family would like to thank the caring staff of the UVA Medical Center, Emily Couric Cancer Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, UVA Continuum Health Care, Visiting Nurse Sydney Gorby, Legacy Hospice and especially Dr. Christopher Heck and sister-in-law Darby Kramer who provided much needed support. Donations in Chip's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Augusta County railroad Museum, Box 806, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

Karen, Michelle, Lori,
So sorry for your loss. Chip (we always called him Fred!) was a gentleman, a true friend, a valued colleague, an inspiration. So many great memories of the Niskayuna years.
