Herbert D. Gott Jr.

Herbert D. Gott Jr., 91, died in the peaceful company of his family on August 7, 2015. Herb was born on June 26, 1924 in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Herbert D. Gott, Sr. and Alice M. (Collins) Gott. He grew up in Rockport, MA and returned as often as he could, which was never often enough. At the age of 18, he was called to serve his country with the US Army in World War II. Herb courageously served in the invasion of Normandy, Ardennes "Battle of the Bulge", Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Since 1958, he resided in Burnt Hills where he raised his family with much love and laughter. He retired from New York Telephone Co. in 1985, after 35 years of dedication, and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Elks PBOE#2466, Clifton Park and Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed golf and played with the Bells Boys Golf League for 40 years, but loved spending time with his family most of all. Herb was the beloved husband of the late Ella Jane (Truax) Gott for 59 years. A gold star father, he lost his son, Herbert D. Gott, III, in Vietnam in 1971. He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Bernadette Lannon. He leaves behind his heartbroken family; daughters, Suzanne (Jon) Gott Diesem of Saratoga Springs, NY, Kathleen (Frank) Palmer of Pensacola, FL and Marianne (Bradley) Krupa of Ballston Lake, NY; precious grandchildren, Kristen and Francesca Palmer, Tyler and Jeremy Krupa; brother, William (Lois) Gott of Massapequa, NY and many nieces and nephews. Herb was always full of life, laughter and love. He lived a long and wonderful life that created a large, loving extended family with many traditions that will go on. The world will be less bright without his smile. The family thanks the Eddy Visiting Nurses Association, Tina and Angela for their compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. Services will begin Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 9 a.m. at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home and proceed to Our Lady of Grace Church, 73 Midline Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Varno at 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be in Sweetman Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
