Richard Schiefer Obituary

Richard B. Schiefer Schenectady Richard B. Schiefer, 88, of Queen Philomina Boulevard, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Ellis Hospital. Mr. Schiefer was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Benjamin and Estelle Sowinski Schiefer and had lived in the Schenectady area since 1952. Mr. Schiefer graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1948 and was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Schiefer was a mechanical engineer and manager at the General Electric Company for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady and a longtime member of the Schenectady Wintersports Club. Mr. Schiefer was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Nolte Schiefer, they were married in 1955, she died in 1974. He is survived by two children, Anne (Philip) Pierce of Columbia, MD and Richard R. Schiefer of Louisville, KY; one grandson, Daniel R. Pierce of Columbia, MD; brother-in-law, Robert (Constance) Nolte of Schenectady and their family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will begin Monday morning at 10:15 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union Street and at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 2 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
