MARY! you never left our family calendar. You are with us every Christmas and Thanksgiving. Your recipe for Swedish Nuts is treasured and has been shared many, many times. You were cool before it was cool. Thank you again for personal inspiration.

I met Mary through her amazing art but sadly did not know her personally. She is thought of often here in South Carolina (formerly of Palatine) as two of her pieces are front and center in my living room. Condolences to the family. She's probably up to her elbows in clay in heaven

We met Mary when we moved to Palatine, Illinois in the late 50's. She became family. She and our parents, Jean& Bunker Hill, bonded immediately, We kids were intrigued with her; she listened to 'cool' music and had butterflies on her walls. We were always welcome to come sit on her couch and read. We didn't consider her help with words as teaching. We three girls became excellent readers. Mary was always a part of our holidays; it was unthinkable NOT to have her at our table(s). Later in life, we would make it a point to go get her so she did not have to drive. She would make Swedish Nuts as a treat. Her sense of color and texture was a learning experience for us.She embodied art, not just taught it.She shared the wonders of her travels to Morocco and Machu Picchu. Her sense of who she was and her personal confidence has been a role model for many of her students and friends. Mary was always a KIND person and that is such a rarity. A gifted piece of her pottery will be cherished. She touched so many lives as a family member, mentor, friend and confidant. Mary, you are missed.
much love from Jean & Bunker's 3 girls,

I'd talked to Mary the first week of November about the possibility of visiting her at Thanksgiving but the trip didn't work out and when I tried reaching her again, I wasn't able to and became concerned. Many wonderful memories of Mary over the years. She loved coming to visit
Uncle Edward's Farm. She loved to walk and, along with her mother Helen, was an inspiration for how to grow old well. Forgive me Mary for never sending you a recording of Echos of Spring by Willy the Lion Smith. I tried but could never get it right but will always think of you when I play it.
My regards to the Andrew's and Wilhelm Families.
Love,

Mary was a beloved cousin, a kindred spirit who loved to read, especially in the presence of her cat. We shared many good times over the phone and in written messages. My brother Ned and I were worried when we were unable to contact her by phone after early November. Then he found the obituary on-line today, and we are both absorbing her loss with shock and sadness. She was a strong individual, a marvelous spirit and a wonderful artist. I have often hoped that I could acquire/purchase one of her beautiful ceramic sculptures; now it may be too late.
I do hope that Mary's cat Lucky has found a good home. They were quite devoted to one another.
I will miss her greatly and wish that I were able to attend the memorial service this coming Sunday.
