Eugene D. Olson

Eugene D. Olson of Glenmoore Eugene D. Olson, 89, of Glenmoore, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012, at Brandywine Hospital. He was the beloved husband of JoAnn Simmons Olson, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Wausa, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Edna Peterson Olson. He was a 1940 graduate of Turlock High School in Turlock, Calif. and received his bachelor of science degree in business and accounting at the University of Southern California. Mr. Olson proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp during WW II, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving his entire tour in India, near Bombay. He was employed by Western Airlines in California for 32 years and served as vice president of the company. Mr. Olson worked in computer systems and pioneered the reservations systems now used in the airline industry. After he retired from Western Airlines, he worked with Amtrak and managed their data processing for seven years. He was a former member of Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown, where he served as a ruling elder. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and was an avid bicyclist, logging 3000 miles on his bike. In addition to his wife, Mr. Olson is survived by his daughters, Ann Marie Wuertz and husband, Chris, of Glenmoore, and Jana Sue Swan and husband, Carl, of Gig Harbor, Washington. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Hulteen of Turlock, Calif.; and by his granddaughters, Heather Swan, Courtney, Alysia and Nicole Wuertz. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, at East Brandywine Baptist Church, 999 Horseshoe Pike, Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
