Franklin Shiffer Obituary

Franklin E. Shiffer of West Chester Franklin E. Shiffer, 81, of West Chester, died on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. He was the husband of Jane A. Buxton Shiffer. Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Franklin J. Shiffer and the late Mabel J. Dean Shiffer. Franklin served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He worked as a welder for Lenape Forge. During this time, he was Chief of Police for East Bradford Twp., and was also a Constable for Pocopson Twp. After his retirement from Lenape Forge and the police force, he worked for Longwood Gardens in Visitor Services and retired in March 2012. Franklin was a member of the American Legion Post 491 of Kennett Square and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a lifetime member of the First West Chester Fire Co. In 1974, he was co-president along with his wife of the Unionville Community Fair. He was an avid toy truck collector. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Susan L. MacGuinness and her husband Stephen of West Chester. Services and interment were held Saturday, March 2, 2013. My stepfather Norman Cherry worked at Lenape Forge with frank. He always talked well.of him. I remember many conversations at the dinner table of he and frank working on one thing or another.
