Arthur Nickless Obituary

Arthur H. Nickless died on September 25, 2011 at his home in Sun City West at the age of 88. Born in Bay City, Michigan and a graduate of Bay City Central High School, Mr. Nickless served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during World War II.
He had been married 60 years to Helen Marie Miller, who predeceased him in 2004. She was "Her majesty the Queen" and he was "Mr. Perfect." Retiring in 1988, his career spanned more than 40 years in the telephone communications business, owner of the Wolverine Telephone Company, independent telephone companies throughout Mid-Michigan. His interest in communications remained keen and he was well known in the SCW community as a computer expert often called upon to teach, install, and repair computers.
A member of Briarwood Country Club in SCW and Bay City Country Club in Michigan, he enjoyed golf. Other interests over the years included building and flying model airplanes. But what he will be most remembered for is his generosity which includes providing more than 20 college scholarships in both Michigan and Arizona.
His real love, however, was his family. Surviving him are his three daughters: Joanie Tankersley of Redwood City, CA; Janet Royce of Allendale, MI, and Judy Graham of Rye, NY and their spouses; four grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Menke Funeral Home, 12420 N. 103rd Avenue in Sun City on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. Memorial donations may be made to Benevilla, P.O. Box 8450, Surprise, AZ 85374 or The Helen M. Nickless Volunteer Clinic, 1454 W. Center Ave. in Essexville, MI 48732 or online at www.bayregional.org.
