Dan Y. Garrison

NEWPORT NEWS - Dan Y. Garrison, 86, a native of Burlington, N.C., and a resident of Newport News since 1941, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006. Mr. Garrison retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a Machine Specialist after 25 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Garrison was an Army Combat Veteran of World War II. He saw combat action in the Battle of the Bulge, the Invasion of Normandy, and served with the 78th Infantry Division when they crossed into Germany on the Bridge at Remagan. He was a Tech Sergeant and served after the war with the Allied Occupation Forces. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Grace P. Garrison; his son, Ronald Y. Garrison and his wife, Honor of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Nina Westbrook of Burlington, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. today in the Peninsula Funeral Home by Rev. Joe Hunt of Liberty Baptist Church. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666
