Goldie Edwards Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Goldie Harris Edwards departed this life Tuesday evening, Oct. 5, 2004, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Robert James and Effie Robinson Harris. A lifetime resident of Newport News, she retired from the Newport News Public School System after 20 years of service and was a lifelong member of Wesley Grove United Church of Christ. She leaves memories of love for her daughter, Wilnette Edwards of Newport News; three sisters, Mildred H. Coles of Fort Washington, Md., Carrie B. Glover of Philadelphia, Pa., and Alice Gholson of New York City, N.Y.; one brother, William 'Bill' N. Harris of Hampton; a devoted dear friend, J. Frank Blizzard; nine nieces; five nephews; 22 great-nephews and nieces; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Wesley Grove United Church of Christ with the Rev. Prince Rivers officiating. Interment will be at Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 637-33rd St., Newport News. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Franklin Funeral Home. The processional will leave from the home at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fellow family members, we just learned of Goldie's passing from this life. As Christians we know that we are only here temporarily. Goldie's spirit has returned to her permanent home and she will have life everlasting. We are unable to attend her homegoing service, however, our love, thoughts and prayers are with you.
